What is Total Resurfacing Laser?

The Total Resurfacing Laser by Sciton is an ablative laser that can effectively reverse aging signs – even those around delicate areas like the eyes and lips. An ablative laser is one that damages the skin cells to stimulate healthy new collagen production, producing better support for the skin and filling in fine lines, wrinkles, and areas of hollowness. It can even be adjusted to a specific depth for your exact needs. Most people see substantial results after a single treatment with the Total Resurfacing Laser.

Am I A Good Candidate for Total Laser Resurfacing?

Total Laser Resurfacing is a great option for patients who want more significant rejuvenation for moderate to severe aging signs. During a consultation with our laser technicians, you’ll discuss your goals for treatment and how laser resurfacing can help you achieve your cosmetic goals.

How Long Does Total Laser Resurfacing Treatment Take?

Total Laser Resurfacing can take 15-30 minutes. To begin, you’ll discuss your goals with our laser technicians and get an honest, professional opinion about what you can expect. When you’re ready, a topical anesthetic will be applied and left to activate. Then, your skin will be cleansed, and any makeup, dirt, or oil will be removed. You’ll be given protective eye shields and the handpiece will be applied to the treatment area. Once complete, your skin will be soothed and made ready for the rest of your day.

Total Laser Resurfacing Aftercare

After treatment, it’s normal for the skin to look and feel sunburned. You may also have some swelling. We recommend the following aftercare steps for best results:

  • Avoid sunlight and wear SPF 30+ daily
  • Keep your skin moisturized with ointment or petroleum jelly
  • Avoid hot environments like hot showers, hot tubs, or saunas
  • Avoid picking, scratching, or rubbing the skin
  • Avoid active ingredients like retinols
  • Use only a gentle, unscented cleanser and moisturizer
  • Avoid exercise and sweating
  • Avoid makeup for about one week

It typically takes 3-4 days of downtime before you can return to your normal activities. If you undergo a more extensive treatment, this could be as much as 7-10 days. You’ll begin to see results within 1-2 weeks, but it can take 4-6 months for new collagen to significantly tighten and rejuvenate the skin. Most people see results after a single treatment, but you may benefit from a second treatment depending on your goals.
